Mayal Dok Lepcha and Karan Rai scored in either half to register the three points in the inaugural match of the Sikkim Premier League 2017
Royal United Sikkim Football Club (RUSFC) has started Play247 Sikkim Premier League 2017 campaign with a victory. In the inaugural match of the premier division league here at Paljor Stadium this evening under flood lights, RUSFC edged past Boys Club, Gangtok 2-1.
The inaugural match has the Sports & Youth Affairs Minister, RB Subba as the chief guest and was accompanied by Rajya Sabha MP, Hishey Lachungpa as GMC Chairman, Ashish Rai as guests of honour. For the first time, any match of the premier division league was played under flood lights.
With an early goal by Rinchen Lepcha in the 2nd minute, Boys Club finishes the first half with a 1-0 lead. However, RUSFC captain, Mayal Dok Lepcha scored the equaliser for RUSFC in an early 47th minute in the second half. Soon, Karan Rai extended the lead of RUSFC to 2-1 in the 79th minute.
Boys Club players played their hearts to bounce back but failed to score any further goal in the match. Finally, RUSFC registered its 3 points with this 2-1 victory in the point tally.
On Tuesday, Pakyong United Football Club will take on State Sports Academy in the second match of the league at 12 noon, which will be followed by another match between the defending champion, Sikkim Aakraman Football Club and last year runners-up Sikkim Himalayan Sporting Club at 2 PM.
Eight premier division clubs of the State have participated in the premier division league, which is being organised by Sikkim Football Association.
