Eric Ayiah´s first-half penalty goal and a stunner at the brink of regulation time from Richard Danso sees Ghana at quarterfinals
Ghana defeated Niger 2-0 in the Round of 16 clashes of the FIFA U17 World Cup 2017 played at Dr. DY Patil Stadium, Navi Mumba and booked the quarter-final berth.
Ghana dominated the first session and made the flurry of attack on Niger who got busy defending Ghana´s invasion. However, the deal lock could be ended final seconds of the stoppage time through a penalty kick to Eric Ayiah who was brought down in the Niger box by Farouk Idrissa. Eric Ayiah took the penalty himself to give Ghana 1-0 lead at the break.
Ghana was no difference in the second half as well and kept the domination going. Ghana had the chance to double the lead at an hour mark when Emmanuel Toku perfect long ranger was parried away by Khaled Lawali followed by another set piece by Ghanaian player Edmund Arko and Mensah but the last touch on the ball went over the bar.
Richard Danso sealed the deal at the verge of 90 minutes when his shot from the edge of the box went straight into the net confirming their quarterfinal berth and will face Mali on Sunday.
