Ahmed Musa second-half brace keeps Super Eagles alive in the 2018 World Cup
In an important Group D match, Nigeria beats Iceland 2-0 after Ahmed Musa strike double in the second half at Volgograd Arena, Volgograd on Friday evening.
Nigeria needed the win to survive in the contest had the shaky start of the game as confident Iceland was quick on the ball and kept the pressure on Nigeria. It was post-first-quarter Super Eagles shown some movement.
It was in the 4ht minute of the second session Ahmed Musa gave lead to Nigeria when Moses´s cross was well collected by Musa before firing a powerful shot on target.
At an hour mark, Nigeria has yet another chance to increase the lead when Moses drove in at the edge of the box and fits the ball in for Musa who tried to play Iheanacho but cuts it out.
At the end of the fifth quarter, Ahmed Musa strikes once again to give Nigeria 2-0 lead. Omeruo fits lovely ball for Musa who collects and races down the left and beats his marker before cutting the ball inside and away from charging Iceland goalkeeper. He keeps himself calm and with plenty of room hits the ball at the top right corner of the net.
Desperate for comeback Iceland had the chance to bounce back into the game when VAR replay awarded plenty to Iceland and Gylfi Sigurdsson hits it in the orbit much to everyone shock.
Nigeria win makes the Group D wide open as Croatia qualifies with 6 points and any of the other three (Argentina, Nigeria, and Iceland) can make it to the next round depending upon the last group stage result.
