Carlos Vela´s penalty strike and Hernandez 50th goal for his country put El Tri in front of the last 16 list, South Korea exits the contest…
Mexico held on their second consecutive win of the Group stage in 201 FIFA World Cup to confirm them in the knock out round. Beat South Korea 2-1 at Rostov Arena on Saturday evening.
Mexico took the lead in the 28th minute through a penalty kick taken by Carlos Vela. The penalty was awarded after Jang Hyun-soo handballs a cross in from Lozano. Vela made no mistake to take the advantage of the opportunity.
Javier Hernandez scored his 50th goal for his country in the 66th minute to give Mexico 2-0 lead. Hernandez´s goal was fourth in World Cup and took him to level with Luis Hernandez as Mexico´s leading scorer at the tournament.
Asian side fought hard for the comeback but could not get in past Mexican defender until an injury minute goal from Son-Heung-Min that gave a brink hope to Korean for the comeback. The three minutes remaining was not enough for South Korea to do the magic.
The win pushes Mexico at the top of the Group F with six points while Germany and Sweden have 3 points each and will face each other later tonight and Mexico will be following the clash closely.
