In another Group B thrilling encounter, Spain and Morocco played 2-2 draw after VAR overturned an offside call on a late Iago Aspas goal at Kaliningrad Stadium, Kaliningrad
Spirited Morocco got the lead through Boutaib in the 14th minute who won the ball from Iniesta and Ramos exchange and raced towards the goal to slot the ball past De Gea to score Morocco´s the first goal of the tournament.
Spain was quick to respond and scored the equalizer five minutes later through Isco who was fitted the ball from the left wing by Iniesta and Isco smashed the ball into the net.
Boutaib had another chance to take the lead in the 23rd minute but his touch was a bit too hard at the box for De Gea to clear with ease.
Spain mounted the pressure on Moroccans but could not yield any advantage at the end of first half.
Mighty Spain continued the pressure on The Lions of Atlas but could not break in. Post an hour mark Spain came close twice to get the lead but Isco´s header was cleared followed by Pique´s header missing the post by a whisker.
Nine minutes before the end of regulation time Moroccan fans went roaring in the Stadium as En-Nesyri jumped above all on Fajr´s corner kick to head the ball into the top left corner of the net. De Gea could do nothing. Morocco leading 2-1 at that stage and Spain now felt the trouble.
La Roja´s now have no option than pouring in all to Moroccan territory in search of the equalizer. The Atlas Lions have been tough throughout the game and gave little space to La Roja for any move.
In the injury minute, Lago Aspas slotted the ball into the net on Carvajal pass but was marked offside by the linesman. The VAR was called for the interventions on linesman decision and the original decision was overturned to allow the goal.
Spain ends up 2-2 against Morocco and topped Group B with goal difference. Portugal finished second, while Iran and Morocco made a heroic exit from the World Cup.
