Samuel Umtiti´s second-half goal leads Les Bleus to the finals of the FIFA World Cup in Russia for the first time since 2006…
In a pulsating first semi-final clash between France and Belgium saw the Les Bleus clinching a narrow 1-0 win over The Red Devils at Krestovsky Stadium, St. Peterburg to book the spot in the finals the first time since 2006.
It was Les Bleus who were in control of the ball in the opening minutes and The Red Devils built up the nervy counter-attack, however, the sides went into the break goalless.
The deadlock was ended in the second half by Samuel Umtiti who rises above Fellaini to head the ball home on Antoine Griezmann´s curled corner kick.
Belgium, playing their first World Cup semi-final since 1986, built up pressure on to come back in the game and came close in the 65th-minute header from Marouane Fellaini but failed to beat Hugo Lloris in his position.
Towards the end, France settles at the back and were using Mbappe´s pace on the counter-attack. Desperate for the comeback Belgium had some hope with six minutes of added time but the Les Bleus defended well to secure a place in the Moscow final and will wait for their opponent on Sunday.
The second semi-final will be played between Croatia and England on 11th June at Luzhniki Stadium.
