Vasco Sports Club eased past Panjim Footballers in the Goa Professional League match played at Duler Stadium, Mapusa, on Sunday.
U-20 Aman Govekar and midfielder Hussain Pinjar scored in either half of play to give the Port Towners much needed three points.
By virtue of this win, Vasco SC moves to the sixth position with eight points from five matches while Panim Footballers are on ninth spot with three points from four matches.
Vasco SC took a dream lead netting in just 31 seconds when Panjim keeper Sherwin Da Cunha failed to cleanly collect Shubham Malwankar´s cross cum shot which fell into Aman´s path and the U20 striker made no mistake to slam into the empty nets.
The first half saw no much actions as Panjim Footballers struggled to settle into the game and it was more of the midfield battle in the first half. Changing ends, Vasco SC doubled the lead in the 51st minute when Rugved Yeole sent in a perfect aerial delivery to Hussain, who headed in to give his side a two goal cushion.
Down by two goals, Panjim Footballers regrouped and tried to organise their play which saw them come close to pulling a goal back but Snedden Rodrigues acute angle shot was pushed for a corner by the Vasco SC keeper Sanju Thapa.
In the resultant corner kick, Joyston DSouza came close to scoring when he met Snedden´s corner but his effort deflected for another corner.
Vasco´s Moises D´Sa and Inacio Colaco were brilliant in the midfield as they commanded the play from the centre.
With just 15 minutes to go, Panjim Footballers came close to scoring but Daryl D´Costa´s shot took a slight deflection and sailed just inches from the goal.
Vasco had the opportunity to score their third but Anil Gaonkar fumbled when it mattered most as he missed an open sitter. That was the best real chance in the second half.
In the next minutes, Vasco had a couple of chances but Beneston Barretto and Anil just couldn´t get their acts right.
