Match ReportSikkim Himalayan SC has thrashed Assam Regiment Centre, Shillong in the opening match of the 37th All India Governor´s Gold Cup International Football Tournament 2017 here at Paljor Stadium this evening. The home team has shown its strong presence in the tournament with an easy 6-1 victory in its first match.
The home team took the field with huge crowd support and adopted attacking tactics and kept constant pressure on its opponents.
Brighty scored the lead for Sikkim Himalayan SC in the 23rd minute. Four minutes later Eugene extended the lead to 2-0. Brighty completed his brace in the 38th minute to finish the first half with a 3-0 lead for the Sikkim Himalayan SC.
The second half was no difference either for the home team as they continued the domination. Two minutes to second half Eugene completed his brace to take the lead of the home team to 4-0. Sudesh Subba extended the lead of Sikkim Himalayan SC to 5-0 in the 55th minute.
Visitors ARC Shillong looked shattered and were clueless to bounce back. They build up move but were not able to keep the ball possession often. Maitshaphrang Nengnong scored the face-saver for ARC Shillong only in the 83rd minute.
Substitute, Sangay Bhutia scored in the dying minutes of the match to seal a 6-1 victory for Sikkim Himalayan SC.
Sikkim Himalayan SC will now take on ONGC, Mumbai in the first quarter-final match on 09 October.
Royal United Sikkim Football Club will take on Calcutta Customs in the second pre-quarterfinal match on Friday.
