14th day of Siliguri Premier League saw Madhur Milan Sangh finishing at the summit with a deserving 1-0 win over hot contenders for the finals, Baghajatin AC at Milan More Ground on Sunday afternoon.
A perfect Sunday with a cool breeze blowing at the venue located at the foothills of Kurseong. The initial phase of the match witnessed Madhur Milan Sangh enjoying the ball possession in front of the small home crowd gathering.
However, the first clear chance for Madhur Milan Sangh came in the 30th minute when Manoj Kachuwa played it to Adarsh Tamang who chose to take that shot for glory instead of passing it to Ganhesh Limboo who was in better position unmarked at the edge of the box.
Table toppers Baghajatin AC for some reason looked tired and were not playing to the best of their ability as they were not accurate with their passes and losing the ball often. The only chance they had was in the added minute of first half when former Royal Wahingdoh FC midfielder, Nagen Tamang was fitted with an aerial ball who swiftly volleyed the ball over the approaching Madhur Sangh custodian Albert Orawn, unfortunately the ball bounced in front of the post hitting the cross bar to rebound which was cleared off.
The home side, on the other hand, had plenty of opportunities created but failed to convert them into goals thus ending the first session goalless.
Baghajatin AC showed some sign of improvement in the second session and enjoyed ball possession and looked for loopholes in Madhur Sanghs backline. At an hour mark Bhaichung Bhutias shot went in for the home but Sanjay Toppo was way too alert to clear the ball to safety.
Substitute Dewasis Rai ended the deadlock and gave Madhur Sangh a much-needed lead. Rai scored from a close range after a cross from the right wing found him perfectly placed to take that final shot. Dewasis soon had to be substituted in the 85th minute due to a head injury.
Baghajatin was unable to work on their attack however defended well to concede anymore with Khusen Manger controlling the defense well.
The win takes Madhur Milan Sangh to the top of the table with 11 points from 6 games and Baghajatin AC moved down to the second spot while Amukta stays at third place with 8 points with an equal number of games.
Dewasis Rai of Madhur Milan Sangh managed to squeeze in the only goal to give his team a narrow win over Baghajatin AC in todays Siliguri Premier League Match.
