Underdogs, Madhur Milan Sangh, overcame all speculation and picked themselves up from a goal down to lift the Siliguri Premier League trophy defeating Kanchanjunga FC 2-1 at Milan More Ground on Sunday evening.
Kanchchanjunga FC started as the favorites to win the match with more possession over the ball and earned a free kick early in the second minute but Subroto Soren who took the shot was unable to create an impact in the scoreline.
Siliguri Rhinos was proving tough for Red Guns as they were frequent with their attack and keeping host side busy at the back line and finally took the lead in the 11th minute through a spot kick when Gulshan while clearing the ball from the box handled and referee spotted the action and pointed for a spot kick.
However, Red Guns gathered well and got themselves the equalizer in the 27th minute through Dewasis Rai who scored on the run after good one two one with Sanjeev Barla from the left flank.
The game was lively after the level and Madhur MS looked more confident on the pitch, however, Subroteo Soren was unlucky in the 33rd minute when his free kick from around 35 yard area hit the bar and came off the line that could have given a lead to the Rhinos.
The second session, however, lacked the excitement and it looked both sides would settle for a tie breaker. However, Dewasis made a classic run at the right flanks down from half line beating Kanchanjunga FCs defensive wall and made a well-calculated cross that was tapped in by unmarked Deepak Oroan in the 78th minute.
The goal brought RED GUNS supporter on the pitch dancing and cheering. The celebration on the sideline picked the height as soon as the referee blew the final whistle.
