Jeakson Singh Thounaojam scored Indias first ever FIFA World Cup goal
9th October 2017 will be counted as a historic day now on as Indian national team got their first ever FIFA World Cup goal. Jeakson Singh Thounaojam is the name whose name will be engraved in Golden Words in the history of Indian Football as the first Indian player to score FIFA World Cup goal for India.
Jeakson, a 16-year-old Manipuri midfielder jumped above everyone inside the box to perfectly divert the ball into the back of the net on Sanjeev Stalin´s corner-kick in the 82nd minute, sending the whole stadium to cry and celebrate the historic event with emotion.
Those present in the stadium will surely take back the moment to cherish forever being the eyewitnesses of India´s first ever World Cup goal.
Young Jeakson is the product of Chandigarh Football Academy and represented Minerva Punjab Academy senior team and is the only player in the U17 squad to have played the senior team at national level.
After the match, Jeakson was caught by media where he said, "It was a nice experience and I felt on cloud nine when I scored the goal, however, we tried our best but were unlucky. It is obviously a great feeling to score for my country in a FIFA World Cup but it would have been sweeter had we won the match. To me, in fact, it does not even matter as long as we score"
"We deserved a result, and we tried our very best to get it, but in the process, we learned a huge lesson what International Football is all about"
Jeakson´s goal gave India hope to survive long in the tournament, however, Colombian proved better in terms of playing a big game and defeated India 2-1 at the group stage.
No matter what the outcome of the game, the squad has won the million hearts and has surely given a new hope to Indian football.
