Patha Chakra beat spirited Red Army in seven goal thriller
Despite an impressive game, the young squad of Indian Army [Red] went down to Partha Chakra 4-3 in the last quarter-final match to confirm the berth in the semi-final of the ongoing 37th All India Governor´s Gold Cup International Football Tournament 2017 played at Paljor Stadium on Thursday.
Army took the lead In the 16th minute of the match after referee offered a penalty kick to Army for a foul by Partha Chakra defender inside the box. N Suresh Meitei successfully converted the spot kick.
However, Army team could not able to hold the lead for long time when Eric PB netted the direct free-kick into equaliser for Partha Chakra in the 21st minute. The first half was ended 1-1 draw.
Eight minute donw to second half, Eric PB completed his brace to give Kolkata side 2-1 lead. Alex Whittemore extended the lead for Partha Chakra in the 56th minute and scored his second of the match in the 68t minute to give CFL Pemier divison side 4-1 lead.
Army Red desperate for the come back struggled hard and earned penalty iin the 83rd minute. N Suresh Meitei scored from the spot to complete his brace.
Substitute, Pranay Rai, gave a ray of hope to the Army with his beautiful goal in the 86th minute. The young squad of Army played their hearts out to equalise the score but could not able to net any goal further.
With the final whistle by the referee, Partha Chakra became the last team to enter into the semi-final round of the tournament with this 4-3 win.
The first semi-final match of the tournament will be played between Mohun Bagan AC and ONGC Mumbai on Friday afternoon at 2:30 PM
Calcutta Premier League side, Patha Chakra, came from a goal behind to beat Indian Army(Red) coming a step closer to grande finale of Sikkim Gold Cup, Alex Whittemore and Eric PB scored a brace each.
