In an entertaining second semifinal match of the 5th Milan More Gold Cup organized by Madhur Milan Sangh, Kanchanjunga FC defeated defending champions, Royal FC, 2-1 after a close fight on Friday afternoon and Milan More Ground.
Kanchanjunga FC fielded their regular XI while Royal FC, however, brought in two new faces. The first real shot on target came in from Royal FC when Surak Chettri long ranger was fumbled by Kanchanjunga FC goalkeeper and falls for Lhendup Bhutia who went for the first time shot but failed to connect well missing a golden opportunity.
After seven minute Royal FC´s African player Timo received the ball at the edge of the box and went for a powerful shot that was blocked by Raj Subba. The second quarter of the match saw both teams rolling the ball in around midfield area must of the time.
At half an hour mark Kanchanjunga FC had a chance to end the deadlock when Bidur Chettri right-wing cross was received by Amir Lama inside the box but failed to keep the ball in the target, Avisekh Dorjee should have asked the call as he was unmarked behind Amir. Kanchanjunga FC continued the pressure till the end of the first half break.
Kanchanjunga FC finally found the lead in the seventh minute of the match when Wangchuk Tamang was fitted ball from midfield who collected and went inside the box before smashing a wonderful goal. Five minutes later Amir Lama went for a volley on the right-wing cross but failed to connect well with the ball.
Royal FC in search of equalizer created moves and in the 22nd minute, Samir Tamang received the ball after the deflection just inside the box whose shot was blocked.
Two minutes later Amir Lama doubled the lead for Siliguri Rhinos who received the ball inside the box and found Royal custodian out of line and netted an easy goal.
Defending champions were clueless but desperate for the goal earned a corner in the 25th minute. Kanchanjunga defender fails to clear the ball out of box and fall for Karan Thapa who slotted a brilliant goal to pull back one fro Royal FC.
After the goal, Siliguri Lions reunited and started keeping the pressure on Kanchanjunga FC for the equalizer but with each passing minute, Royal FC was losing its orientation under pressure. Siliguri Rhinos stood tall to avoid any break in backline thus confirming the berth in final of the 5th Milan More Gold Cup
