In an entertaining and eventful 17th day clash of the Desun Siliguri Premier League, Kanchenjunga FC secured a narrow 1-0 victory over arch-rivals Royal FC at Milan More Ground on Tuesday evening.
The match witnessed both the sides fighting with a clear intention to secure points . It was Royal FC who got their first shot with Indrajeet Chettri winning the ball in the left wing before sending a fine cross that got cleared for a corner in the seventh minute.
Three minutes later it was Kanchenjunga FC who built on the move and earned a free kick at around 35-yard area. Subrata Soren stepped in and took a well calculated shot but Royal FC custodian Subham Biswas made an acrobatic jump to collect the ball which otherwise would have made it to the net.
As the tempo of the game was rising KFC striker Amir Lama and Royal FC defender Afzal Ansari got into a scuffle forcing the referee to intervene and hand red card to both the players.
A chaotic atmosphere saw players charging towards the referee and questioning his decision. The match resumed after nearly five minutes of halt.
In the 37th minute, Abhishek Darjee collected a left-wing cross at the edge of the box and did well to push it between the legs of rushing Royal custodian. Alert Samir Tamang made a brilliant run to slide the ball away from the goal line saving his side from conceding a goal.
The scoreline remained unchanged at the break.
Second half witnessed a change in the referee due to a hamstring injury and apparently was not in a position to continue.
Royal FC were more dominant in the second half proceedings and were frequent with their attack. Three minutes before an hour mark Karan was fitted a fine ball by Inderjeet Chettri but Karan failed to judge the ball well thus ending the attack with a goal kick.
Five minutes later Bibek Bhutia took it solo from the middle before placing it for Timo who rolled the ball towards the left and fitted in for unmarked Inderjeet whose first-timer shot in an empty net was nowhere near the target.
In the 72nd minute Shankor Roy collided with teammate Raj Subba while attempting for a header and fell on the ground unconscious He was rushed to the hospital immediately for medical assistance.
At the end of the fifth quarter, Timo committed foul on Suraj Tamang inside the box and conceded a penalty. Abhishek Darjee stepped in made no mistake to send the ball home.
Desperate for an equalizer Royal FC fought hard but failed to find the back if the net.
Todays win sends Kanchenjunga FC to the top of the Group B table with 10 points from 5 games while Royal FC remains at second place with 7 points.
In a high voltage game, Abhishek Darjee’s penalty kick made the difference between the two sides pushing Siliguri Rhinos to the top of the group B table.
