In a do or die Group A encounter of Desun Siliguri Premier League Apex FC secured a close 1-0 victory over United Sikkim FC today at Milan More Ground.
It was the Sikkimese side who enjoyed an overall control over the game and had a chance to take the lead in the 30th minute through Empho Hang Subba.
Subba received the ball outside the box and scooped it over onrushing Apex custodian Kilon Subba. Kilon reacted quickly and ran back to the post and made a brilliant acrobatic save dazzling all the spectators around the ground.
Sikkim United FC created a couple of close moves before the end of first half but Apex custodian Kilon Subba´s brilliance made United Sikkim´s task virtually impossible.
United Sikkim were still dominant in the second half while Apex looked more effective with their counterattack.
In the 83rd minute, Apex FC ended the deadlock through Manish Subba. As the Kalimpong side counter attacked, Manish Subba showed a brilliant combination with Anukush Pradhan with one two one before Subba took the final low shot from the edge of the box that went past the keeper into the bottom right corner.
Sikkim looked for the equalizer and almost found in the final minute when Ong Tshering Lepcha fired a power-packed shot from inside the box and once again it was Apex´s custodian Kilon who proved his brilliance in between the bars.
With the win, Apex climb up to third place below Amukta Priwar with 5 points respectively while United Sikkim struggles at fourth place with 4 points and with 1 game remaining. The contest for the second team to qualify for the semis is quite open in Group A.
