The No. 1 Grassroots football academy in India, Reliance Foundation Young Champs is a residential football scholarship academy in Mumbai. The academy aims to spot top football talents in the country between the age group of 11 and 14 years to give them the required guidance and the thrust to sharpen their skills along with quality education. They aim to develop and secure India´s future in the sport through structured technical guidance.
Mr. Gyaltshen Dorjee Moktan AFC B licensed coach from Kalimpong had been assigned by the foundation with the sole responsibility of scouting youngsters from North Bengal and Sikkim.The trials were conducted on the 14th of April at Ila Pal school ground Sukna under Marcus Michael Vaessen. The Dutchman, formerly associated with top clubs such as SC Millingen, Leones and N.E.C. as a technical youth coordinator is presently the head coach of the Reliance Foundation young champs.
Rapgyal Lepcha and Sumit Pradhan from Namchi Sports Hostel, Sujal Chhetri from Melli Dara Sports Hostel and Srijal Rai from Pool Bazaar Darjeeling have been selected to train in the Academy for a week after which they will have to appear for the final phase of selection. Apart from the above players, two youngsters, Alwinson Bareh and Brilliant Thabah from Assam and Shillong respectively have also been selected by the scouts.
Getting admission in the Academy would mean a fully funded scholarship for the players by the reliance foundation to develop their footballing abilities as well as their academics.
Four talented and budding footballers from Namchi, Melli Dara and Pool Bazaar Darjeeling earn their ticket to Mumbai for the final selection process to gain admission in the Reliance Foundation football academy.
