Just one year after his appointment, East Bengal authorities have decided to replace their head coach after finishing fourth in the Hero I-league and a loss in the final of the Super Cup.
The 40-year-old was signed by East Bengal back in 2017 in a record deal worth Rs. 1.25 crore after his I-League triumph while at Aizawl FC. Khalid Jamil was on a two-year contract with East Bengal and it had a clause that allowed both parties to part ways after six months with a notice period of two months.
Subhash Bhowmick, the club´s technical director, was not happy with Jamil and expressed his disappointment after their loss to Bengaluru FC in the Super Cup final and refused to work with the head coach. Subhash will continue as the club´s technical director and will have a major say in the appointment of Khalid´s replacement, sources revealed.
Club secretary Kalyan Majumder said, "Miserable performance by Khalid Jamil. We have already sent a letter to him that we cannot continue with him at the present moment."
Following Khalid Jamil´s exit Ranjan Chowdhury is to take over the responsibilities of head coach at East Bengal.
