Vicky Singh brillinace in tie breaker handed seond consecutive win to Lucknow Army in prestigious Kurseong Saheed Gold Cup

 

Lucknow Army were victorious for the second consecutive time in the prestigious Kurseong Saheed Cup beating Football Kurseong in tie breaker 4-2 on Friday 30th Janaury´15 at Goethals Memorial Ground.

 

In a cold misty weather the final of the Kurseing Sahaeed Gold Cup started after a minute of silence observed in memory of the Gorkhaland Leader Subhas Ghising who expired yesterday in Delhi after a long illness.

 

Both the teams had a good beginning as both the team looked danger and opened up their attack early in the game though Football Kurseong was more on attack in the first quarter of the match.

 

When the tempo of the game was picking up referee had to stop the game twice before the half time as the visibility was nil due to mist and it made it impossible for referee to continue the game.

 

The first half action was interrupted by mist much to the disappointment of crowd huge crowd gathered.

 

Football Kurseong begun second half with early attack in search of goal as Nigerian and Ghanaian striker Francis and Arafat displayed some really good football as the combo kept pressure on Lucknow Army´s territory.

 

The match witnessed some heated argument in an hour mark when Arafat was recklessly challenged and Football Kurseong players protested the challenge with some pushing and dashing.

 

In the 66th minute Awesh Gurung´s throw in from the right hits Arafat´s hand inside the box and referee was in perfect position to see and did not hesitate to point to 12 yard spot and Lokeshwar Singh made no mistake to send goalkeeper Choden Devnath to wrong side. Two minutes later Football Kurseing got the equalizer through Arafat´s first time touch from Siddanth Chettri´s fine corner kick.

 

Both the team created some danger in the last quarter of the game but could not find the winning goal thus taking the match to extra time. Even Extra time could not change the score line and match moved on to tie-breaker to decide the winner.

 

Lucknow Army´s custodian Vicky Singh who had already proved himself as penalty specialist in Milan More Gold saved three penalty shots off five Football Kurseong took handing the victory to Lucknow Army.
