Blue tigers were held goalless draw by Gorkhalis in their home ground, Dasrath Rangsala, in the 2nd leg match of the 1st Round of FIFA WC 2018 Joint Qualifier.
The 2nd leg match witnessed Nepal domination in the field at home ground as the host gave a very little chance to visiting nation but could not capitalize the home advantage.
Blue tiger had an early chance to increase the aggregate lead in the 6th minute when Robin Singh powerful kick flew over the bar much to the delight of Nepalese squad. Gorkhalis gradually took control over the game and created some beautiful move to threaten Indian defense line.
Santosh Sahukala looked promising in attacking line-up as he was involved in most of the Nepalese attack and was nearly successful in his 11th minute free kick from around 22 yards. The host had their close chance in the 18th minute but Indian custodian Skipper Subrata Pual was brilliant in his position and denied every Nepalese move inside his area.
Coach Stephen Constantine defense line looked strong as Arnab Mondal and Sandesh Jhingan stood tall to give a very little chance to danger looking Nepalese attack.
Indian side kept the phase slow and played safe as they did not want the host team to take advantage of any of their mistakes. Sunil Chhetri showed a brilliant peace in the 69th minute when he dribbled into danger area beating three of the Gorkhalis defender but missed the target by a whisker. Even Robin goal in the 63rd minute was disallowed by the referee.
Gorkhalis were desperate to find the goal kept pressure as they continued to attack the Indian backline even in the dying minute of the match.
National Coach Stephen Constantine said it was nice to leave” happy.”
“It is nice to leave with a happy result. Result always matters and we achieved what we intended.”
Constantine added, “We have to accept that did not play our best game and we need to do better. We are trying to build a good Team for the future and I promise that we will.”
