I-league 2 Division Aizawl FC v Mohammedan Match report
Aizwal Football Club who has won both of their previous matches and tops the eight team table above Chanmari FC with goal aggregate, came from one goal behind and snatched all the three points from Mohammedan Sporting Club.
Mohammedan on the other hand was defeated by Lonestar Kashmir in the previous encounter wanted to grab the three points and looked confident from the beginning of the game.
The Kolkata side dominated the first half and was leading by 1-0 at the end first half. They should have had lead 2-0, had the 12th minute Rakesh Meshi goal not been disallowed by referee after which some controversy and heated argument broke out but the referee maintained decorum and the game continued.
Mohammedan’s sole goal came in the 39th minute from Asim Biswas‘s brilliant right footer from outside the box.
Aizawl FC looked a better side in the second session of the game as they kept the ball possession and kept invading Mohammedan Sporting ‘s half.In the 69th minute substitute Reben got the equalizer for Mizoram side after just ten minutes of his entry into the field when he wonderfully steered the high right wing cross from Albert Zohmingmawia. Six minutes later the referee awarded a penalty for a wrong tackle inside the box and Lalrozama Fanai made no mistake in sending the PIFA goalkeeper to other side.
Speaking to Goalie365 after the match Aizawl FC Manager Hmingthansanga said,” I am happy with the boy’s performance and we hope to continue the current from… I am hopeful and will strive to win all the round matches.”
While Mohammedan Sporting Manager Bilal Ahmed Khan expressed his disappointment on the team performance and was not happy with the referee’s decision to cancel the first goal.
Aizawl FC defeated Mohammedan Sporting in the most heated game of the third round match of the 2nd Division I-league in Kanchanjunga Stadium today morning.
