I-League 2nd Division 7h Round Review
Aizawl FC who managed to get the top spot in the eight team table with 18 points from 7 games had remained undefeated until today as their winning streak was put to a halt by their local rival Chanmari FC with the score line 2-3 in favor of the latter. Both the North east side locked their horns today, Neither of the teams were defensive as both the teams pounced each other hard at Kanchanjunga Stadium. Chanmari FC however was better on their counter attacks and that is what handed them victory over their rivals this morning. Immanuel H.S Lalthazuala though gave Aizawl FC an early lead in 18th minutes, Chamari FC took no time to level the score line in the following minute through Malsawmfela’s fine finish.
Chanmari FC who are known for their inability to perform in the second half surprised everyone on the field as they took no time to get the lead through a stunner from Malsawmfela and eventually increasing their lead 3-1 in 50th minute from Yinka Joel Sunday. Justice Morgan gave some hope to Aizawl FC to come back into the game but Chanmari FC guarded their fort well to prevent their rivals to cause any damage. Chanmari FC who began the league in top form but later lost the fourth round game against Lonestar Academy and drew against Mohammedan Sporting and PIFA Sports in the fifth and sixth rounded respectively.
Kenker FC on the other hand displayed an excellent football and registered their first win in the first phase against the local rival PIFA Sport who finished last with 2 point from 7 games without a win.
PIFA too failed to showcase the same standard which they had displayed against Chanamir FC in the sixth round encounter where they had forced the northeast team to share a point each. To give them some credit, PIFA sports have been struggling with injuries from the beginning of the league.
In another 7th round encounter Lonestar Kashmir FC out played United Sports thrashing Kolkata side 4-0. Lonestar Kashmir FC finished second after the first phase matches with 16 points from 7 games with 5 win and a draw. Kashmir’s first ever team to fight for the I-league berth got applaud from every corner of Indian Football. Christopher Chizoba’s brace in 21st and 79th minute and a goal each for Ajay Singh (54th Minute) and skipper Jagpreet Singh added minute goal kept the Kashmir’s hope alive for the I-league next season.
While United Sports holds 5th position with 9 point from 3 win and 4 lost. The Kolkata side has to really fight hard to finish in the top spot in the second phase seven round matches.
Hindusatan FC surprised everyone by a sole goal win over Mohammedan Sporting. Kolkata side that came out of all odds with the change in coaching staff and players and last but not the least the financial hiccup going through the roller coaster ride as they hold 4th position 10 points from 7 games with 3 win and lost and 1 draw. The second phase is not going to be easy ride either for the Balck Panthers.
Hindustan FC in-spite of long footballing history were not able to produce anything special and were seen struggling on the field for the win. Their only win in the 1st phase before thumping Mohammedan Sporting was with Kneker FC.
The 2nd phase of 2nd Division I-league will be played at Golaghat Assam in seven round (Round 8 to 14) and the team who tops the eight team table will play in the I-League next season.
The first phase of 2nd Division I-league concluded in Siliguri today with a lot of surprises on the field. Aizawl FC were handed a bitter taste of defeat by their local rival Chanmari FC.
