League leaders Chhinga Veng FC continued their unbeaten run this season as they beat rivals Chanmari FC 1-0 in the final fixture of Round 7 at Serchhip.
A second half strike from Lalrammawia was enough to be the difference between the two sides as the defending champions were able to withstand late pressure from their foes.
As has been the norm between most clashes between the two teams, an even match up of football was on display in the first period. Chhinga Veng FC had a brilliant chance to take the lead through MS Dawngliana who forced a brilliant save from his namesake, the opposition goalkeeper.
New striking sensation Lalnunzama went close for Chanmari FC at the other end while Laldampuia and Vanlalbiaa Chhangte used their guile and pace to good effect in the first half.
The best chance of the game came just before halftime after MS Dawngliana was again thwarted after by Chanmari FC custodian MS Dawngliana when the striker was released by Lalrammawia.
Chanmari FC looked to attack more in the second half with the introduction of MC Malsawmzuala and Lalthasiama with the former heading over the bar just after a few minutes of coming on.
But it was Chhinga Veng FC who found the breakthrough in the end with Lalrammawia benefiting from some brilliant work by Lalromawia and Sawmzela on the 74th minute.
A Malsawmzuala freekick almost earned a point for Chanmari FC but Chhinga Veng FC´s Zothanmawia ensured they bring home all three points with a brilliant stop late in the match.
