Sagar Gurung´s triple save pushed United Brothers to the semis
In an entertaining third quarterfinal match of the 14th Sukna Gold Cup, United Brothers secured a 3-1 win over Mechi Natralaya KFTC today at Sukna High School Ground. The regulation time ended at 2-2 scoreline.
Confident looking Kakarvitta Football Training Center was the first to shed the blood in the 25th minute through Bishal Tamang who slotted a wonderful goal. Nepalese side dominated the first half and maintained the lead till the end of the first session.
The second half witnessed a brilliant come back from United Brothers Kalimpong as they equalized in the 59th minute through Sonam Lepcha who placed himself at the perfect place to tap in KTA keepers fumbled to collect Samip Gurungs shot from the edge of the box.
The goal boosted Kalimpong side´s moral and they started looking for the second goal. Dewasish and Franklin both missed a golden opportunity to take the lead, however, in the 75th minutes Dewasish Rai and Franklin had a good one to one play before Dewasish Rai picked up the final shot to find the net and gave United Brothers the 2-1 lead.
Mechi Natralaya were not going to leave so easily and fought back to score the equalizer in the 77th minute eventually taking the match to the penalty shootout.
United Brother brought in custodian Sagar Gurung for the penalty shootout and Sagar proved his worth as the substitute goalkeeper saved three out of four shot taken while United Brother scored all three shot taken thus win the match with 3-1 final score.
