“Because brothers don´t let each other wander in the dark alone”. This quote suits perfectly to one of the best teams from Kalimpong, “United Brothers”.
Established in the year 2016, the club has been a top tier team in a very short time. They often say “we are not a team but we are brothers”.
Prashant Pradhan, head coach of United Brothers talked to Goalie365 about the club´s success in Sukna Gold Cup.
Mr Pradhan said “We are thankful to the organisers of Sukna Gold Cup, and it was a dream come true to lift the trophy. Players gave their 100% despite being in a tough group”.
When asked about how United Brothers have become one of the best teams in such a short time, He said “The boys have been playing together for 8 or 9 years since their schooling days, when they used to play for S.U.M.I heroes.”
United Brother´s main objective is to give platform to the local players but during Sukna Gold Cup, they signed two foreign players, Mr Pradhan said “Actually we always play with our local talents but during Sukna Gold Cup, some of our main players got injured and couple of boys went to play for good clubs and that is why we had to bring 2 or 3 foreign players”.
United Brother´s president Barden Lepcha too expressed his views, when asked about the sponsors and funds. He said “At first we really struggled for funds, players and club officials used to contribute for tournaments”
“And later we were invited in good tournaments around West Bengal and Sikkim, and it helped a lot for our funds”.
Mr Lepcha added “We used to sell T-shirts, stickers to raise fund but it wasn´t successful”. “Still facing the problems because our club isn´t registered yet”.
Some of the well-wishers of United Brothers, are helping with the funds.
Lastly he said, “We are ready to welcome all players from Kalimpong, and our main goal is to achieve our place in the national level”.
Recently United Brothers took part in the Jigme Dorji Wangchuk Gold Cup which was held in Bhutan. They reached till the semi-final stage of the tournament. Ruslan Three Star F.C one of the renowned football club from Nepal defeated United Brothers. It was the first time United Brothers played in foreign soil and talking about experience, Captain of United Brothers, Sonam Lepcha said “We were the only Indian side to reach the semi-final stage and there were a lot of good teams from neighbouring countries and states, yet we played good football and reached till the semi-final stage and playing against good clubs, our experience level is high”.
He also added “All we want is great love and support towards United Brothers, after all boys and our managers are working hard”.
