I-League: DSK Shivajians 1-0 Mumbai FC
New comer DSK Shivajians secured their first I-league win as they beat Mumbai FC 1-0 in Maha Dery of the Hero I-League 2016 at Balewadi Stadium here, on Monday.
The home side made five changes from the side that was humiliated by the defending champions Mohun Bagan only a week ago. While Khalid Jamil started with Shrikant Ramu and Malemngamba Meitei in the starting lineup.
As expected had a fine start of the game with early share of chances, but poor distribution saw them make nothing concrete off their attempts.
Shivajians had their first big chance of the outset materialize into a goal. In the 20th minute, a wonderful pass from the midfield found Douhou Pierre in yards of space. The Ivorian made no mistake to smash the ball into the net to score Shivajians first goal of the season.
Second period witnessed the Mumbai side keeping the ball possession and were looked dangerous with their forward passes and Eric Brown almost put got the equalizer, but DSK keeper Subrata Paul made a great save from point-blank range to deny the striker.
The home sides was giving away possession quiet easily but were good on counter-attack. Much to their delight, Prakash Thorat had a golden opportunity to seal the game in the 65th minute, but rather than squaring it to an unmarked Douhou Pierre, he went for glory and made a colossal mess out of it.
77th minute saw Taisuke Matsugae´s shot beat Subrata but it hit the post to rebound much to the frustration of visiting side.
Mumbai FC had a number of chances late in the game but the Shivajians keeper was exceptional in his position and home side held on to a narrow margin to seal their first win of the season.
The win helped DSK Shivajians moved from the bottom to take seventh place on the table. Mumbai FC remains at fourth position with 8 points.
Douhou Pierre´s strike on the 21-minute mark proved to be sufficient for the Pune-based outfit....
