Bengaluru FC defeated defending champions Johor Darul Takzim of Malaysia in the semi-final match becoming the first Indian Football Club to reach the finals of the AFC Cup.
The first leg of the semi-finals that was played on the 28th of September at Malaysia ended in 1-1 draw, Bengaluru FC stormed in to win the second leg at home defeating Johor Darul Takzim 3-1 thus gaining 4-2 on an aggregate to advance into the final.
Sunil Chhetri once again showed his brilliance scoring two Goals before the final goal from Juanan that sealed the deal for Bengaluru FC to advance into the Final where they meet Iraqs Air Force Club on November 5.
Visitors Johor Darul Takzim looked fierce during the first phase of the match earning a couple of free kicks troubling their opponents defence set up quite often. They were also quick to take the lead in the 11th minute when Safiq Rahim took advantage of a rebound sending the ball into the back of the net giving his team an early 0-1 lead.
Bengaluru FC got their equalizer just 4 minutes before the half time when Lyngdohs corner found Sunil Chhetri perfectly placed as he leapt just enuogh to head the ball home.
The Bengaluru skipper got his brace in the 67th minute when he took abrilliant strike from just outside the box beating JDT custodian Izham giving Bengaluru an advantage of 1 goal.
Finally it was Juan Antonio Gonzalez Fernandez who sealed the deal for Bengaluru FC in the 75th minute whith an exceptional header diverting Lyngdohs free-kick straigt into the back of the net.
The final whistle saw all the Fans around the stadium up on their seats as they created history by becoming the first indian Football club to reach the Finals of the AFC cup.
